Horse Training

NOTE: We are not accepting any additional training horses on the waiting list at this time.

If you want your horse developed into a safe, responsive and willing partner, but don't have the time, skill or confidence to do the training yourself - having them trained the Downunder way at our facility in Belle Center, OH may be just the choice for you!

What will your horse learn?

Your horse will learn everything covered in Gaining Respect & Control on the Ground Series I & Series II DVDs and everything in Riding With Confidence Series I & Series II DVDs. At the end of their training period, you will have a quiet, confident and respectful partner who has been ridden outside the bounds of an arena with other horses and is ready for your particular interest - be it competition in the arena or just a good solid trail horse that is a joy to be around.

How long will my horse be in training?

The minimum training period is 8 weeks, but this period can be extended to suit your particular desires and your horse's learning pace. At the end of the training period, we require a mandatory owner lesson at our facility so that you can learn the training process and understand the training foundation that has been laid. This lesson is like getting the keys to your brand new sports car! The cost of this mandatory lesson is $200.

How much does training cost?

Our training services are $125 per week (6 training days per week with 1 day off), plus $13.50 per day for board. Each horse is given individual attention each day of roughly 2 hours, consisting of training, grooming, feeding, riding, etc. We have an all-weather, indoor facility that ensures that your horse will be trained, regardless of the weather outside. Incidental expenses, including deworming, hoof trimming and veterinary care will be at the owner's expense. All horses are dewormed upon arrival and most will need to have their feet trimmed once or twice during their stay (charge per trimming is $40). We reserve the right to call a vet should we feel it necessary and we are unable to reach you for approval. If your horse requires time off for any reason (lameness, etc.) you will be charged daily board only. The average cost with boarding, training and incidentals per horse is about $2,100 for the 8 week training period.

What is the value to me of having my horse trained by Downunder Horsemanship?

First, and foremost, you will have a willing, respectful and responsive partner ready for you to enjoy. An investment in your horse's education with Downunder Horsemanship will increase your horse's value and make him more marketable should you choose to sell him in the future.

Does Clinton train my horse personally?

No, Clinton does not train your horse personally. Clinton's apprentices are responsible for daily training duties. At least three times per week, Clinton will personally oversee your horse and his training progress with his particular apprentice to ensure that every day your horse spends in training is used to maximum result. Each apprentice has no more than four horses in training at a time to ensure a high quality and personalized training experience for each horse and owner.

Why would you want Downunder Horsemanship to train your horse?

Time. Knowledge. Confidence. Facilities. For a jumpstart. For a headstart. For a better lifelong training foundation!

What other services do you offer?

  • Halter Breaking Foals, Weanlings and Yearlings (3 week training stay required)
  • Colt Starting
  • Re-education of Problem Horses
  • Trailer Loading
  • Continued Training & Advancement
  • Personal lessons with Clinton's apprentices to improve your riding and training abilities ($150 for an 1.5 hour lesson)
  • Personalized clinics for a fraction of the cost (Have one of Clinton's apprentices travel to your facility and instruct up to 6 people in a 3 day clinic - the exact same content delivered in Clinton's clinics for just $1,200 per day plus expenses.)

How do I learn more or get my horse on the training waiting list?

It's easy! Just call us at 1-888-AUSSIE2.

From one of our training clients....

June 17, 2005

Dear Clinton:

We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to you, your professional trainers and your entire staff for the time, patience and excellent training our horses received during their eight weeks at your new facility.

When we arrived, after a ten hour drive (which was worth it) we were greeted and our horses placed in reserved stalls. Not only were we advised of the care and feeding procedures but were informed of the type of training each horse was to receive. During the eight weeks our horses were being trained, we were kept informed of their progress and physical condition which was appreciated. When we returned to receive our private instruction which taught us what our horses were capable of doing we were amazed! Jake, the "spooky" Palomino no longer jumped or was scared of anything that moved. I had doubts that this was the same horse!! Morgan did an amazing job "de-spooking" Jake and delivering a new horse which actually now listens to the rider. Phoebe, the Paint horse mare was equally impressive and now has smooth transitions, great gates and will come to you when its time to use the halter and lead rope. No more chasing her around the pasture. She is a willing partner thanks to her Downunder Horsemanship training. Even though my wife and I own all your training tapes, with our busy schedules this was a GREAT way to fast forward our horses training. Morgan called it "boot camp" and I think she is right.

We had anticipated that both horses would be more responsive to the riders' commands and less dangerous when confronted with unexpected events on the trail. Our expectations were surpassed and we now have two "new" horses which listen, obey and are safe for riding. For the first time since we have owned these horses we are truly now able to enjoy them.

It appears as a result of your training that the "horses have re-negotiated their contract" and have accepted that they are horses and we are the riders.

Our sincere thanks to you, Morgan, Tara and Kristin for all your knowledge and hard work.

Kris Hauk recently had her three year old guilding FUMO at your facility for training for 90 days we have had him at our stable for two years and know him verry well I would like to say that we are very impresed with the results of the training Fumo received we have had him in the arena as well as on the open trail. He has performed far beyond expectations thanks for a great job.
