Academy Horses Starting 2013 Off Strong

The first Academy Horse session of the year is underway and the group is coming along nicely. Clinton’s Academy students welcomed the horses to the ranch at the end of December and immediately started groundwork exercises with them before introducing under saddle work. The 12 horses in the session represent a variety of horses including 2-year-old Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas that need started, stock horses with longstanding bucking issues, spooky Arabs and an Irish Sport Horse aiming for a career in eventing. No matter their background or future goals, all the horses receive the same foundation training in the Fundamentals level of the Method. Along with the groundwork and riding exercises, the horses are taught to ground tie, hobble, load on the trailer and walk, trot and canter on a loose rein on the trail. In fact, starting next week, the horses will be ridden extensively on the trails around the ranch and worked over the obstacle course. Learn more about the intense training the horses receive and how training in the Fundamentals sets a horse up for a lifetime of success on the Academy Horse website.
