NRCHA Western Derby Confirms Clinton’s on the Right Track

Clinton spent the past two weeks in Scottsdale, Arizona, competing in the National Reined Cow Horse Association Western Derby with Prada (aka Dropthatkittydownlow) and Reagan (aka Ima Hot Rey). Both horses had strong showings in the preliminaries and made it to the finals. Reagan, owned by the Warren family, earned a spot in the Intermediate and Limited Open finals while Prada, owned by Tom and Melissa Sims, qualified for the Limited Open finals.

Clinton showed both horses in the herd work portion of the finals last Thursday, scoring a 200.5 with Reagan and a 207 with Prada. On Saturday, they competed in the rein work and cow work finals. The day started with rein work where Reagan marked a 212 and Prada scored a 211. When the rein work portion of the finals was wrapped up, riders took their horses down the fence in cow work. The judges gave Reagan a 210 for his efforts and Prada a 215.5.

When the dust settled, Reagan earned a composite score of 622.5 to finish 11th in the Limited Open and 23rd in the Intermediate Open. Prada marked an overall score of 633.5 to take 6th place honors in the Limited Open.

“Overall, I was very happy with my horses and the effort they gave me. With three separate events to train for, reined cow horse is extremely difficult but a fun challenge. I’m thankful to the Scott and Ashley Warren family and Tom and Melissa Sims for trusting me to train and show their horses,” Clinton says. “We’re getting better every time we go out and are going in the right direction. Let’s keep moving forward, people.”
