Learn How to be a Weekend Warrior With Ian Francis

Clinton credits legendary Australian horseman Ian Francis for teaching him how to finesse his riding and how to gain feather-light control of his horses’ body. In December, Clinton will be joining Ian at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre, where the two horsemen will share their knowledge and training methods.

Throughout the December 14th and 15th event, Clinton and Ian will be alternating presenting training demonstrations, covering various topics. Ian’s training demonstrations will include:

Working in the Roundpen
Ian will work with a young horse, explaining how to get control of the horse’s feet and mind. Then he will work with an older horse, explaining how to improve the horse’s understanding of how to better relate to the bridle.

Form and Function
This demonstration is all about understanding form and function and developing consistency of form in your horse. Ian will demonstrate how riders can improve their sense of feel and timing.

The Weekend Warrior, Part One
Would you like to compete in cattle events but don’t know where to start? Ian shares the exercises and maneuvers that he uses to prepare his horses for cattle-related events. He’ll also demonstrate the exercises he uses to maintain and improve his horses between events.

The Weekend Warrior, Part Two
What do you do when you have no access to cattle, but still want to compete?  Ian will take the exercises and maneuvers from session one and show you how to apply them for work on the mechanical cow and quad cow for cutting, campdrafting and cow horse events.
