Academy Training Horses

Our summer class of Academy Horses is well into its six-week course of learning the Fundamentals of the Method. After initial work in the arena, the majority of the horses’ training sessions are focused on the trail and working over the ranch’s obstacle course. By the time the horses graduate the Academy, they have plenty of long rides, wet saddle pads and concentrated training and can negotiate just about any trail obstacle.

Horses enter the Academy with a variety of backgrounds from colts that need started to chronic problem horses that are here as a last-ditch effort. The horses are trained by Clinton’s Academy students who are overseen by Clinton and Professional Clinician Shana Terry on a daily basis. The students work with the horses two and a half hours a day and keep in contact with owners on the horses’ progress through the Fundamentals. When the training session comes to a close, the owners are invited to the ranch for a full day’s private lesson with the student who trained their horse.
